Short post tonight, since my studies (and sleep) are calling. I made my first venture to the Rocky Top Summer League at Bearden High School tonight. It’s basically a 40-minute pickup game. I think it’s like the NBA All-Star Game: it’s an exhibition, but these guys wanna win and wanna get better. How do I know this? When Tyler Smith and Scotty Hopson are diving on the floor in the last 5 minutes of a close game, that’s how I know.

The first two games were just…blah. Oddly enough though, Wayne Chism didn’t finish his team’s game, but I don’t think any of that is going to amount to anything. The second game was between two teams who are clearly part of the second tier of the six-team league, but the last game was incredible, thanks to Daniel West, Tyler Smith, Courtney Pigram, and Bobby Maze.

Let me put it this way. B-Maze (this is what I will refer to him with from now on) scored 47, West and Tyler had some SportsCenter Top 10 alley-oops, and Pigram hit a game-tying three at the buzzer in regulation and the game-winner at the buzzer in OT – and I caught them both on video!

Stayed tuned til tomorrow afternoon’s post.
