Don’t have alotta time, gotta be somewhere (class). But here we are, the day of Game 1 FINALLY, and here’s my outlook on this series.

The Lakers are and probably should be favored. They have been an offensive juggernaut this entire postseason, and the biggest strength I see is the way they pass the ball. They play so well together it’s great to watch. Then throw Kobe absolutely taking games over (Games 1 and 5 against the Spurs, and Game 4 in Utah), and I don’t see how you stop them.

Boston, though, has gotten here with their defense. They contained LeBron for the most part, especially in Boston, and I think just wore Detroit down. They haven’t won pretty, but they’re winning and that’s what counts.

Who wins? I think the Celtics will (I know, like Boston needs another professional sports title), and here’s why: they will find a way (I said this in my poetry class on Monday), which has no logic whatsoever. My logic answer? Defense wins championship. It’s worked for the Giants (pass rush on Romo and Brady), sorta for LSU (or was that more Erik Ainge?), and didn’t for Memphis State (bad defensive move on that last regulation possession by not fouling, and what happens? EPIC fail). Boston’s defense will somehow pull them through, though really it’s going to be hard keeping Kobe down – that guy is on a mission and is the best player in the game.

I think, well, more hope really, it goes seven games. I wanna see what the fuss about all these older series is about…

Lakers. Celtics. Does it Get Any Better?

Thankfully, it’s just one more day until Lakers-Celtics. ESPN is hyping this thing up like they do USC and Tim Tebow. I would like to thank Petr Sykora for scoring doing two things: (1) giving me something to watch tonight of importance and (2) ruining the nights of Red Wing fans. I could only stay up for the first OT, though, so I missed it. Right now, Detroit’s got a 2-1 lead after 2 periods.

Pengiuns force Game 6 tonight

I haven’t watched hockey all year, or really in like five or six years. Back pre-strike, I was actually a pretty big hockey fan, thanks to a few trip to Predators games each year (back when they sucked). To be honest, I really am a little surprised how much hockey has fallen. They need a Game 7 in this series so badly, and even then it might not help. I will say this: Stanley Cup Playoff hockey is as good as it gets. These guys are insane! These big, tough, yet intelligent and graceful (they ARE skating, remember, something I can’t really do well) dudes are giving it 125%. And the goalies are amazing to watch, taking hard rubber punishment all game (Pittsburgh’s Fleury stopped 55 in Game 5).

Yes, now I am done pimping hockey. I probably won’t ever revert to my hockey fan days, and here’s why: the NBA. More specifically, fantasy basketball. The two seasons are at the same time, and I’m a basketball guy, so basketball > hockey? That’s easy.

Couple of things to add from yesterday’s post: first, Detroit doesn’t have a coach yet. ESPN had Stephen A. Smith reporting Curry as the new guy. I was taking Stephen A’s word for it. Actually, Detroit asked to talk to Hawks coach Mike Woodson today. Interesting, I don’t see it though. And I hate the Pistons anyways. Yes, I wanted them to beat the Lakers a few years ago, but that was kinda like rooting against the Yankees, instead it was the Lakers. Sheed is a total thug who isn’t that good, and Rip Hamilton is a punk. Chauncey and Tayshaun I got nothing against…

No David Ortiz? No problem. Boston is a inning or so away from beating, er, putting Tampa Bay back in their place for the second straight night. The Sox should be fine.
